About Mel

Colorado has been my home for more than 30 years. My wife and I raised our son and daughter here, built a successful small business, and are living the American Dream. My parents instilled in me the values of hard work, persistence, and giving back. These principles continue to guide me today.

I was born in Ethiopia to a family of dedicated public servants and patriots. At 18, I was forced to flee the country under a brutal socialist military regime. I left behind everything I knew with no resources. I had only a determination to reach America, where I believed I could find freedom and opportunity.

The journey was far from easy. I spent years doing whatever work I could to survive, from sailing to janitorial work to caring for animals as a zookeeper. At times, I even slept outside on cardboard boxes. My path took me through Italy and Germany before I eventually settled in Canada, where I began working with MetLife and became a top-producing agent.

In 1993, I made my way to the United States and worked hard to become an American citizen. I started my own business, helping individuals and families secure the financial stability they need to live with confidence and independence. It has been an honor to support others in achieving their own American Dream.

Now, I am committed to giving back to the country that gave my family so much. I invite you to join me in ensuring that every resident of Colorado’s 6th District has the opportunity to build their own American Dream.
